Staff Development

In working to fulfill our mission of “Rowing for All”, CRI is excited to be able to offer ongoing coaching education opportunities for current coaches on staff. On-Water Coaching Evaluation Consultations

The shared experience of working with their crews on the Charles River unites all coaches at CRI. To promote an enhanced experience for their rowers and an improvement of their communication skills, CRI staff members ride along with CRI coaches to provide an on-water coaching assessment. The on-water assessment is followed with an off-water feedback session to highlight coaching strengths and target areas for improvement. Done as one-time or a series of assessments, CRI coaches are able to use the expertise of coaching veterans to improve their ability to achieve short and long-term developmental goals, both personally and for their athletes.

Interested coaches should speak directly with Nonna Giunta.

The ‘What Works’ Summit

CRI’s annual coaching conference, The ‘What Works’ Summit, is held each February in our boathouse. The WWS explores best practices through intensive workshops, panel discussions, a peer-to-peer problem solving session and a keynote address.

Coaching Conferences

A limited number of scholarship opportunities are available for attending other coaching conferences outside of CRI. Previous conferences attended by CRI coaches on scholarship are the Joy of Sculling, USRowing Convention, Junior Coaches Conference and the Rowing Canada Aviron National Conference.

CRI coaches wanting to attend outside coaching conferences should talk with Director of Coaching Education Matt Lehrer about their interest.
