• Working on strategy to move us from making pure financially based decisions to decisions that align more with the organization’s intended impact

  • Intended impact: what we do to create… xyz by a certain time

  • How do we have a bunch of different independent programs that all feed into the same brand

  • Senior staff is working on coming up with intended impact statements for their areas – they are picking desired outcomes so that there is actually something to measure against

  • Example

Outputs: programs, staff, financial aid

Outcomes: faster, more confident

Impact: grades, good people, college

Right now CRI is mainly in between outputs and outcomes

• • Three perspectives we need when we are determining how to measure our outcomes

    • Our beneficiaries – what it’s like to row here 

    • Our financial sustainability – what it’s like to give here

    • Our internal process and standards – what it’s like to work here – this has to be robust 

  • Goal is to gain input, create a shared vision 

• The board has hired a strategic consultant, the trustees are on board

• Strategic priorities – 2 precious resources:

  • Time – intended outcome to focus on this

  • Money – CRI budget

$1.5million in overhead – need to balance hours, income and expense – we need about 330k hours right now

• • Fundraising will need to be a bigger focus for everyone here – this would allow us to have fewer conversations about budget – our experience as staff is improved here if we raise more money

  • Reminding people that we are nonprofit is important – we need to take care of the organization by making sure that message is out there in the community

  • Our staff is not supervised when they are interacting with 96% of the people who row here – it’s staff’s responsibility to keep our nonprofit status in mind and foster that engagement with community
